The art of exhale
Costa Rica • June 13–20, 2027
Seven days to breathe deeper, move slower, reconnect with yourself—and remember what it feels like to have nowhere else you need to be.
THIS IS YOUR INVITATION TO EXHALE
You spend so much of your life moving from one thing to the next—doing, giving, planning, carrying.
For seven days, you’re invited to set some of that down.
The Art of Exhale is a retreat into slower mornings, nourishing movement, ocean air, meaningful connection, and enough space to hear yourself again.
Nothing to accomplish. Nowhere else you need to be.
MORNING
Awaken + Move
Yoga • Meditation • Breakfast
BEYOND THE MAT
AFTERNOON
Explore + Restore
Beach • Adventure • Rest
EVENING
Gather + Exhale
Dinner • Connection • Sunset Practice
As the day softens, so do we.
Evenings are an invitation to come back together — for nourishing dinner, sunset practice, reflection, sound, conversation, or simply time to be.
Some nights may hold a shared experience.
Others may leave room for you to follow what you need.
Nothing to accomplish. Nowhere else you need to be.
Your days have rythem, but they are not rushed.
There is space to simply be.

your home for the week
Tierra de Sueños Wellness Lodge
Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
Tucked into the lush Caribbean rainforest and just steps from the beach, Tierra de Sueños becomes our home for the week—a place where the sounds of the jungle, warm ocean air, and slower rhythm of life become part of the retreat itself.
This isn’t a hotel you simply return to at the end of the day. It’s part of the experience.
Wake to the rainforest. Walk to the sea. Come home to yourself.
Wake Up in the Rainforest
For seven nights, Tierra de Sueños becomes your home.
Tucked into the lush Caribbean rainforest, your bungalow offers a place to retreat, rest, and settle into the natural rhythm of Costa Rica.
Wake to the sounds of the jungle.
Step outside into the warm morning air.
Let yourself remember what it feels like to have nowhere else you need to be.
This is more than where you’ll sleep.
It’s part of the exhale.

Michele Marie
Yoga therapist. Educator. Author. Adventurer. And a firm believer that sometimes the most important thing we can do is give ourselves room to exhale.
She also believes some of the most meaningful moments in life happen when we finally give ourselves enough space to be fully present for them
THE EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE EXHALE
My relationship with yoga began simply: I was looking for relief in my own body.
I knew what it felt like to carry stress long after the moment had passed. As I practiced, my body began to feel better — but something else was happening, too. I became curious about why.
That curiosity led me deeper into yoga, breath, awareness, mindfulness, movement and eventually the philosophy and ethical practices of yoga, especially the yamas and niyamas.
What began as something I did became part of how I learned to live.
She is a teacher, educator, author, adventurer, and lifelong student of what it means to live awake — in the body, in nature, in community, and in the life unfolding right in front of us.
Her work has taken her from yoga studios to paddleboards, from classrooms to retreats, and into communities of veterans, first responders, people in recovery, and everyday humans simply looking for a place to breathe.
The Art of Exhale is an extension of that work — but it is also personal. Michele isn't inviting you to Costa Rica to escape your life. She's inviting you to slow down enough to experience it differently.
Certified Yoga Therapist • E-RYT 200 • YACEP • SUP Yoga & Fitness Master Trainer (PIF) • Recovery Coach • Veterans Yoga Project Instructor • Author & Educator • Founder, The Art of Exhale School of Yoga & Embodied Living • Founder & Program Director, Lotus Pond Holistic Wellness Ranch
My own early life experiences also shaped the work I would eventually choose.
I know what it is to carry patterns born from survival and then, years later, realize that some of those patterns are no longer serving the life you're trying to create.
Much of my own practice has been learning to notice those patterns with greater compassion — not fighting myself, but understanding myself — and discovering that we can practice a different way of being.
That journey drew me toward trauma-informed work, recovery, veterans and first responders, and especially toward creating resources for young women who have lived through difficult beginnings of their own.
The people I work with don't all share the same story. None of us do.
But underneath our different experiences, so many of us are looking for something remarkably similar: a little more peace in our minds, a little more ease in our bodies, meaningful connection, and the ability to be present for the life we're actually living.
That's why I don't believe there is only one doorway in.
Sometimes it's yoga. Sometimes it's breath. Sometimes it's journaling, recovery work, nature, conversation or simply being around people who allow us to be ourselves.
And for me, more than twelve years ago, one of those doorways became the water.
THEN I FOUND WATER
Somewhere along the way, I discovered that some of my favorite classrooms don't have walls.
More than twelve years ago, paddleboarding and SUP yoga became part of my life — and they never left.
There is something about water that asks for presence. You feel the board beneath your feet. You notice the wind. You breathe. You wobble. Sometimes you fall in. You climb back up. And somewhere in all of that, the rest of the world gets a little quieter.
WHY I CREATE EXPERIENCES LIKE THIS
Over the years, I’ve learned that some of the moments we remember most aren’t necessarily the biggest ones.
Sometimes it’s a conversation over a meal.
A morning practice when something finally becomes clear.
Laughing harder than you expected.
Standing barefoot somewhere beautiful.
Or realizing, perhaps for the first time in a while, that you feel completely present.
Those are the kinds of experiences I love creating.
My work has allowed me to hold space for people from many different walks of life — veterans and first responders, people in recovery, women moving through difficult chapters, yoga students, teachers, and people who simply know they need a little room to breathe.
I don’t believe everyone needs the same practice or the same path. I believe in offering different doorways: movement and stillness, breath and reflection, nature and adventure, meaningful conversation, laughter, community — and sometimes simply doing absolutely nothing for a while.
Because stillness isn’t empty.
There is so much we can notice when we finally become quiet enough to hear ourselves again.
And perhaps that is what I hope most for you in Costa Rica.
Not that you become someone different.
Not that you fix everything.
Not that you return home with your entire life figured out.
But that somewhere between the rainforest and the Caribbean, the movement and the stillness, the laughter and the long exhales,
you have enough space to remember what it feels like to be fully present in your own life.
You don't have to escape your life to experience it differently.
THIS IS YOUR INVITATION TO EXHALE
You don't have to earn the rest.
You don't have to arrive with anything figured out.
Just come as you are.
For seven nights, let the rainforest hold the noise.
Let the Caribbean remind you how wide the world still is.
Let your breath become something you notice again.
